My Current Obsession-Old Bay Seasoning

Three words-Old Bay Seasoning. I am obsessed. It all started when I was reading Coconut and Lime and saw these fantastic looking shrimp. I knew I was going to love the seasoning for the packaging alone. I'd heard of it before when people were talking about crab bakes but I had never actually come across it until the other day. We were at a fish monger that we don't usually frequent and there it sat, bright yellow screaming my name. I was so excited.

I knew the first thing I was going to make with Old Bay would be Coconut and Limes' shrimp and it was. Why no photo of them you ask? Because they were so outrageously good that I couldn't stop stuffing my face long enough to take a photo. I will next time and that will be soon, trust me. Since the weather has been nice here we've been using the Old Bay Seasoning with grilled shrimp like every other day. They are the best grilled shrimp we've ever had. Seriously, I can't get enough of this stuff. I want to put it on everything . I'm trying to show restraint though because I once went hog wild with Fleur De Sel and now my boyfriend refuses to eat it. I can get obsessive like that.

RECIPE:
1 lb raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
3 TBS butter
1 tsp Old Bay Seasoning

Soak wooden skewers for about 15 minutes in water. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. After the skewers have soaked, thread the shrimp onto the skewers. Melt the butter and Old Bay Seasoning together. Brush all sides of the shrimp with the butter mixture. Place all the skewers on the grill. Grill 2 minutes on one side, turn the skewers over and grill 2 more minutes. Remove the skewers from the grill and serve.

My friend used Old Bay as part of a marinade for grilled chicken. It came out great!

Never tried it. Why do you soak the skewers?

Thanks Coco, I'm so sad for you. I say you plan a protest!

Hi Christine, yes it is THAT good! I find myself sprinkling a bit into the palm of my hand and eating it straight up, often.

Thanks April, score!

That sounds great Nate n Annie. I'll definitely try that.

Hi Natasha, I soak the wooden skewers so they won't burn on the hot grill. I wouldn't want any flare ups to come between me and my Old Bay ;)

Never seen Old Bay before, but I feel similarly about "All American Chip Spice", made and sold only in Hull a small city in the North of England. It improves everything!

Old Bay with fresh crab is another winner! Mmmm, I get hungry just thinking about it. With a wedge of sourdough bread, and a glass of chablis, it's a perfect meal.

Old Bay is one of the items I don't have in my pantry... so, I'm going to take this as an indication to reconsider.

I've heard that Old Bay is a great seasoning but have yet to use it. I guess, after reading your post, I should go buy some. The shrimp sound great.

I love Old bay. Its a great flavor. I tried making the mix at home but it was a little too strong. I love it in my crab cakes. I am planning to have shrimp this weekend. I think I need to add a little Old Bay!

Hi Beth, I've never heard of all american chip spice. So there is another delicious seasoning I have been missing out on?!

Mmmm Carolyn, you are making my mouth water! I had originally heard of Old Bay for Crab Bakes. Sounds so good.

Oh Lo and Pam, you won't regret it!

Thanks for the tip Lori, it would be fantastic in crab cakes. I'll definitely use it next time I make them.

Thanks Dragon, I feel your pain, it's like grocery shopping when you're hungry. Dangerous!

Thanks Vanpham, I hope you love it as much as I do. I'm sure you will ;)

Old Bay is AMAZING!! I grew up in Maryland where Old Bay is THE seafood seasoning and I love it. I live on the west coast now and have to get my parents to send it to me out here. Anyways, I use it in almost everything. I love it on fries or roasted potatoes, in mac and cheese, i even sprinkle some inside my grilled cheese sandwiches. Have you tried mixing some with mayo to add a little extra something to sandwiches?

Hi Anon, I absolutely LOVE all of your ideas for Old Bay! So far, the only one of your ideas I always make are the fries and of course with seafood but I will certainly be trying out all of your fantastic tips.
