My First Food Event Entry

Within the food blog world lies a whole host of events. It's pretty exciting especially considering if one has a food blog, they are probably pretty passionate about food. In reading my favorite food blog, Simply Recipes, I noticed something interesting that Elise said and that was how much time food bloggers actually spend on their blogs. I hadn't really thought about it before but in approaching my one year anniversary, I found it interesting. Elise talks about the countless hours creating recipes and then of course you have to cook them and shoot them, which guarantees you never eat a hot meal. Not to mention the writing that it all involves. I really have never thought about the time.

I also must mention that Elise and friends have created a great food blog search which I am so thrilled to be a part of. You can find the search on the left hand side of my blog and just type in any ingredient, it's genius! Anyway, I am so excited about many things involving food blogs these days and in particular the blogging events. My first entry was for a winter salad event created by Spittoon Extra. I love this because in my house we eat salad every night, no matter what time of the year it is. I'm also pretty particular about cooking with seasonal and local ingredients so this event seemed like a perfect beginning for me. I guess we'll see, the deadline is tomorrow. I'm just happy to be a part of such a wonderful and supportive community of people. People who share my passion for food and just appreciate great recipes. Ahhh, it's a good and tasty life we live.

RECIPE:

1/2 a head Iceberg Lettuce, chopped into large chunks
1 large pear, peeled and diced, (I used a red Bartlett)
1/3 cup toasted walnuts
leftover steak or about 1/4lb grilled sirloin

Combine all ingredients together. Add dressing and toss to coat. Serve immediately.

Dressing:
1/4 cup blue cheese, crumbled
3 TBSP sour cream
2 TBSP mayonnaise
5 TBSP buttermilk
1 TBSP apple cider vinegar
1 tsp lemon juice
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp sugar
pinch garlic powder

Mix all ingredients together and allow to sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Congrats on your almost (?) one year anniversary food blogging. I'm right behind you and agree that it takes a huge amount of time. I also have a non food blog I love, but it's so different. Anyway, like you, we enjoy salad with each meal at home regardless of the season. I've seen the combination of pears & walnuts in many dishes this winter and have had an idea to try a few. This salad is definitely one we would choose. YUM!

Well, congrats to you too kellypea! I've often wondered how writing a non food and food blog differs. Let me know if try this salad. I love the combination of blue cheese and pears, oh and walnuts too, so good.
